ThinVNC reprend le fonctionnement de VNC à ceci près qu'il n'emploie qu'une application serveur. Celle-ci sert de serveur HTTP qui offre la possibilité à l'utilisateur, depuis n'importe quel navigateur Internet, d'accéder à la machine distante. Le client léger se trouve être une application AJAX directement exécutée depuis le navigateur. ThinVNC dispose du strict minimum pour le paramétrage. En effet, vous pouvez décider d'activer l'authentification et de paramétrer le message de bienvenu sur le serveur HTTP ainsi que le numéro du port de connexion.
